Winter Evangelism is In Season

Another winter season is upon us, and as Bible believers we know that any season is a great time to hold forth the word of Truth. Mary found these little mini-bows at the store ($.97 for a package of 10), and just look how they turn a "Paradise" gospel tract into a cheerful little present. Now who wouldn't take one of these when you offered it to them?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone you meet this year opened their heart to the truth of God's word, and through faith in Jesus Christ alone received the gift of eternal life? If we've been given that gift, that unspeakable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15) we should offer it to everyone around us, until Jesus comes to rescue us out of this crazy world, or until we go to be with him.

Regarding 2 Cor. 9:15, John Wesley wrote the following in his "Notes on the Bible" (italics are my emphasis):
"His unspeakable gift - His outward and inward blessings, the number (they are so many) and excellence (they are so great) of which cannot be uttered.

Black Lives Matter

The Grand Juries have spoken, and the protests go on. You've seen the pictures, and you've heard the slogans:
"BLACK LIVES MATTER"

No, I disagree with how this statement is framed.
LIVES matter, but adjectives do not.

Here is what I mean:

Lives matter, because God says they matter.
All men and women everywhere, from every nation and ethnic group are created in the image of God, created to have a loving, personal, eternal relationship with their Creator God. There is only one race: the HUMAN race. You knew this, right?

"And (God) hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:"
Acts 17:26-27
Consider this:
"Every human being in the world is classified as Homo sapiens. Scientists today agree that there is really only one biological race of humans. Geneticists have found that if we were to take any two people from anywhere in the world, the basic genetic differences between these two people would typically be around 0.2 percent,1 even if they came from the same people group.2 “Racial” characteristics account for only about 6 percent of this 0.2 percent variation. That means that the “racial” genetic variation between human beings of different “race” is a mere 0.012 percent.3

This is an excerpt from the book, "One Race One Blood" by Ken Ham. You can read the footnotes, and more of this book by clicking this LINK.

You need to avoid people who teach and speak about division or distinction based on so-called "race." God tells us to do good to all men, to love all men.

And God does not just "say" that lives matter: He demonstrated it in action, by sending the Savior into the world so that all men might be saved by trusting in this one Savior of all men. The proof of this truth is the historical fact of the death, burial and resurrection of the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

By the way, if you deny the God of the Bible, how can you say that any life matters? On what basis would you say that? "Survival of the fittest" stands opposed to such slogans. No, the atheist, the anti-theist, they must borrow a Biblical world view to say anything about right or wrong, truth, justice, etc. And since many people are practical atheists  in this country (meaning they act like atheists despite any claims about faith in God), is it a surprise that we have allowed the murder of over
55 Million
pre-born babies through abortion? Don't those lives matter? Where are the Al Sharptons and the Jesse Jacksons standing up for these lives? Where is the outrage? Where are they blocking the interstates and bridges? Sadly, the ones who do stand up for these lives are vilified and marginalized, and their act of love is met with anger and hostility by people in our country.

People, we need to seek the Lord. He is the only one who can deliver us from our sinful, wicked hearts. He is the only one who can take away the hatred we have for one another, and give us a desire to love one another. He can set us free from sin, death & hell, if we will turn to him. Trust in the Lord Jesus today as your Savior.

Quote: "...When I Could, I Gave It My All."

Kayla Montgomery's story is featured in the ESPN video below. She's a high school distance runner with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), who loses all feeling in her legs when she runs, but nevertheless is one of the best runners in the state.

It is an inspiring story, but her very last comment in the video is what really hammered me:
"When, or if, I'm not able to run at some point down the road, then at least I can look back and know that, when I could, I gave it my all."

This morning, I just re-read my daily Bible reading that took me through the Epistle to the Colossians. And when I heard that statement from Kayla, this scripture echoed in my soul:

Colossians 3:23
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Oh brothers! That statement burns in my heart and soul!

Almighty God, please make it so...that I would live out my Christian life this way; that I would run my race to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Hebrews 12:1-4), taking every opportunity to proclaim the gospel & share the love of Christ with any and all. And with my dying breath, as my heart beats it's final stanza, to look back on the days the Lord has given me and say,
"When I could, I gave it my all."

What Mormon Missionaries Don't Tell You!

Ha! Just saw this on Frank's FB page, and had to share it here...click the link below and enjoy the 4-1/2 minute video...

"Mormon Secrets: What the Missionaries Don't Tell You."

What's it about? Glad you asked:
"When the Mormon missionaries come knocking at your door, there is more than meets the eye. They say they are Christians, but there's a lot they are hiding from you!
What would it look like if they were actually honest? Let's find out!"

Please note, this is not intended merely to poke fun at Mormons. They possess and spread "another gospel" (Galatians 1:6-10), and fall under the divine anathema Paul writes of under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost: anathema means "damned to Hell." They are deceived, and are deceiving others; when they come to your door, they are not presenting what they really believe, and that's the point of this video. (Jehovah's Witnesses pull off a very similar deception, by the way!)

Pray for and evangelize LDS when you get the opportunity. It is not God's will that these perish.

Reaching the Lost Now - Regardless

Rob's ministry to men and women deceived by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) is an encouragement to me. I just wanted to share a brief clip of a young woman who tried to embarrass, ridicule, and stop the witness Rob has to these souls. This has happened to me, and it is very...interesting. The Holy Spirit can and will turn the attacks of the enemy to our advantage, and it seems to me that this could be the case with Rob's friend here.

Sorry, for some reason I could not embed the YouTube video right in this article, but the link above works fine.

Despite opposition, it is imperative that believer's in the Lord Jesus Christ be actively reaching the lost now. Is it easy? No. Is it difficult? Usually. Is there persecution? Well, all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution, (2 Timothy 3:12) so yes. in some form or another. But Jesus said, "Go!"

Let's encourage each other to persevere in our labor for our Lord. Pray for these lost LDS folks. Pray for the young woman as well. And while you're at it, pray for Rob and all the other Christians who are out there reaching the lost...now. Maranatha!

Why Pride Causes Me Problems - JD Farag

Sometimes I just like to pass along something I've read or watched that was an encouragement to me & my walk with the Lord. Along those lines, check out this series of YouTube videos by J.D. Farag. Mr. Farag is a Pastor of Calvary Chapel Kaneohe in Hawaii, and I came across his teachings from his monthly "Mid-East Prophecy Updates", which I also recommend.

This series on pride comes from verse-by-verse Bible teaching from 1 Corinthians 4:6-7. I am linking video number 1 of 5 videos here. If you like the first one, you can go out on the web and pull up the others. Just Google "J.D. Farag, and you'll find his You Tube site.

I think it is a much needed word for the Church today. It is much needed for me! Hope you are blessed and encouraged. Maranatha...Paul.

Leaders Must Be Readers....

It's a beautiful Saturday here in Central Iowa, and I usually try to get out and share the gospel with my friends, neighbors, and complete strangers on a day like this. But, not today.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I struggle with a lung illness that really knocks me down once or twice a year, and that is certainly the case today! Actually, I've been struggling all week, and have missed some work because of it.

So, I guess the Lord is wanting me to rest my body, meditate on His word, be full of thanks for all the He has done, is doing and will do in my life. I know He's got a new body waiting for me - a glorious eternal home for my soul that will never get sick, run down, or wear out.

But even in rest, we can redeem the time (Ephesians 5:16, Colossians 4:5). An evangelist once wrote,
"Leaders must be readers."
And frankly, I have been lazy lately. Not with the Bible; I read through the Psalms & New Testament twice in a year, and the Old Testament once. But I've been lazy in reading other edifying books that can help me grow in Christ and be more useful in His service.

Well, no excuses...Mary got me Dave Hunt's "Judgment Day!" for my birthday, and Mark Cahill sent me his latest book, "Reunion" as a gift a while back. And while the Bible comes first, I get the chance to read a couple of good, godly other books now, and trust God will teach me some good truths through these brothers.

Quick question: Where are you leading people?

We all influence other people in this life: friends, family members, neighbors, kids at school, and people we pass on the street or in the store. Are you leading them closer to Heaven by your words & actions? To do that, you have to be saved yourself. If that's true, are you pointing people to the only One who can save them from Hell? That's what I want to do, and I want to encourage you to this end as well.

For those of you brothers and sisters who are not physically unable to be about the Father's business, please reach out to someone with the gospel for me today, will you? I'll be praying for you to boldly share the truth in this dark, dying world, and that many will be turned to our mighty Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

And, prayer for my recovery, strength, health, etc., are greatly appreciated. Paul.

A Word for Our Ukrainian Website Friends....

We get a lot of Ukrainian "referring  URL's" or "referring sites" hitting our Iowa Seed Sowers website that are basically pornographic in nature, and apparently there is no way to block these sites from pinging us. So, since these poor souls are being manipulated and used by the enemy of our souls to snare so many, many people through their filth, I thought I would respond as Jesus did, with scripture. So for any Ukrainian Website friends who might be reading, this one's for you!

May your eyes be opened to see your great need of deliverance from sin, death, and Hell, and may you flee to the Lord Jesus Christ who alone is that Deliverer!

(Matthew 5:27-30)

Від Матвія 5 Ukrainian Bible (UKR)

Come Witnessing With Me - On My Birthday!

September 4th, 2014.

God has blessed me with 52 years on this beautiful, crazy planet. It was a very hot & humid day in Marshalltown, Iowa, and I wasn't sure if too many people would be out on my way home from work. I usually bypass the downtown area & all the stop signs, but today I intentionally drove that way, to stop and pass out some tracts, and see if I could talk to a few people about Jesus Christ.

So, come along witnessing with me (through this audio recording), up & down Main Street here in Marshalltown. Click the link to listen HERE.

You'll hear 3 interesting conversations with Terry, Rick, and Josuina - at least I found them interesting. Forgive me for the couple of spots where the wind noise cut in pretty loud. Maybe in the future, I can use a better microphone or something. Let me know what you think.

I hope this message is an encouragement to you:

  • If you are a born-again Christian, may you be bold in sharing Jesus Christ with everyone around you.
  • If not, may you turn to the one-and-only Savior of sinners, and be washed clean of all your sin, before you step into eternity!

Witnessing for our Lord was a great birthday present to me from God. And when I got home, my wife Mary made sure I knew how much she loves me by making it a very special day. Maranatha!

My First Gideon Bible Distribution - UNI

About two years after I became a Christian back in 2003 we had two members of Gideons International come visit our church.  After listening to the testamonies of these men, and what the organization stood for, I knew that I watned to be a member of this proffesional men's association.  After applying several times, and then being denied several times, I gave up hope that my dream would happen, and accepted the fact that I would never be a member.  Years later a friend of mine joined the organization and begged me to go to a few meetings.  Carefully I went not to get my hopes up.  Not getting our hopes up I did fill out another application.  Long story short, I was chosen, became a member, and received my emblem in July, 2014.  The fire was lit again, and was grateful to be a part of this proffesional men's organization boldly going into the world to proclaim the gospel and distributing God's word throughout the world.
Wednesday was my first Gideon Bible distribution and what better way to start would be at the University of Northern Iowa.  I was supprised to know that I was the only one to represent Des Moines East Camp, and I was welcomed by impressed men that I would drive two hours to lend a hand.  We all met at the Hy-Vee to have breakfast, fellowship, and get our assignments.  Since help was short, each of us had to take our own postions alone.
Not realizing where I would be I was placed at one of the main gates on the corner of College and University.  I had a lot of traffic, but I was only able to give out 47 Gideon New Testaments out of 200 available.  The students were genuinely nice, some very grateful, some cautious, and some stand-offish.  I was able to have a conversation with a Muslim girl.  She was very grateful to receive the testament, and I was able to carry on a conversation before she had to go to class.  Before she left I gave her a tract from Living Waters called, "Are You Good Enough To Go To Heaven?" and she said she was going to read them both.  In the end, we gave out 3,159 Testaments total with 28 Gideons and 2 Auxillary members.  One man gave out 500 by himself, and on average we gave 100 per man.  Next week we hit University of Iowa, then the following week is Iowa State University.  Please be in prayer that we have enough laborers to harvest these fields and that many come to the Lord by the Testaments given.

Earnestly Contend for the Faith

Today is Saturday, August 30th, 2014, the last weekend of the summer, and the start of Labor Day weekend here in the United States. I made it down to the Des Moines Farmers Market in the historic Court Avenue district, to herald the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, in order to:
1. Extend God's offer of forgiveness to all who will repent & trust in Jesus - and Jesus alone - to save them from the consequences of their sin against God.
2. Encourage believer's to boldly live for and share Jesus Christ with everybody & anybody while they can during this short life here on earth.

This is my little corner of the harvest field. Someone commented about there being "better soil" elsewhere, but all these people are eternal souls, who will spend eternity either in the presence of God with unspeakable joy, or as miserable creatures suffering the judgment of God forever separated from His love. No, this is my field, and I will work it as long as the Lord gives me strength of body & mind to do so. Here's my view from the south-west corner of Court Ave. and 2nd Street where I spoke today.

Wow, what an excellent day! My friends from the Atheist booth down on Court & 3rd drop by to pay their respects. I always enjoy their efforts to disparage or to stop the preaching of the gospel, because they help draw a crowd of interested listeners, and that was certainly the case today. So thank you, my atheist friends: I love you for Christ's sake, and I am praying for you. You claim to be "free thinkers", but will never know freedom or experience truth until you humble yourself before your God, whom you do know, and look to the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. May that be true for all of you!

It was a great day, and the war of worldviews was on! Praise God that I was clothed with His holy armor (Ephesians 6:10-18), and that the weapons of my warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Click HERE for the link to the audio.

Please remember, this is a raw, on-the-street recording, so while it may not be Dolby stereo, it pretty much reflects the environment we work in. It includes times where I am standing on my box & speaking out to people walking through the Market, times when people came up close & personal to dispute what I was saying, and also personal discussions between 1 or 2 people. I left it all on there, and you can skip through or listen to as much or as little as you like.

PLEASE NOTE: I was down at the Market alone today. You will hear comments or statements made by other Christians who jumped into the fray. I do not endorse or approve of anything anyone may have said in support of the gospel proclamation. Be a Berean (Acts 17:11), and check out everything everyone says (including me) against the Scriptures.

You'll want to hear how things went down...it was a real rhubarb, but God is always faithful, and I am so much more encouraged to live for His glory, both publicly & privately, and to reach out to those who are blinded and taken captive by the enemy or our soul, through false religion or philosophies that are contrary to the revealed word of God. Please pray for all who heard, especially the atheists, that they might repent and trust Christ Jesus before it is eternally too late. Maranatha!

Jesus Just Talked About Love?

If you listen to the latest audio from our public ministry in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, you'll hear a great exchange with a young man named Tom, who did not particularly agree with my style of communicating the gospel, claiming that Jesus just talked about love. And while it is true that Jesus spoke about love, and that the Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:16), that is not all that He is.

In other words, God is not love to the exclusion of His other attributes: He is also absolutely holy and righteous, and He will not overlook sin. All good Bible preachers know that we must proclaim the whole counsel of God, not just the parts that sound good. We speak the truth in love, and let the chips fall where they may.

Listen HERE, and let me know what you think.

I was so thankful that Tom showed up this day. A half-way decent heckler is like gold to an open air preacher. So, thank you Tom. I do hope you get your theology straitened out, but you are welcome to my street corner anytime.

Maranatha!
Paul

Come Witnessing With Me

I live and work in Marshalltown, Iowa, a small Midwestern town about 45 miles north-east of Des Moines. Come walk with me as I hit the downtown area over the lunch hour to pass out gospel tracts and look for gospel conversations. The 28 minute audio starts out with a young lady who was getting into her car just as I was getting out of mine, who said her allergies were "killing her." I hesitated, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get her a gospel tract.

Courthouse in downtown
Marshalltown, IA
Looking west from the corner of
Main Street & Center Street
You'll meet the "Abstract Lady" (really, that's her job) at the 10:40 mark, and we end with an in-depth gospel conversation with Javier, starting at the 14:11 mark.

Come pound the pavement with me for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you don't have YouTube you can get the audio HERE.

Answering "The Problem of Evil" Excuse

Mary and I got down to the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market on Saturday. Many gospel tracts went out, and I used the argument from my atheist antagonist (see previous post) from a week ago: he said that if he saw a rape going on, he would stop it, and that God sees all these rapes going on and does nothing to stop it. In general, it is the question regarding the problem of evil.

(Photos: view from corner of 4th & Court where I spoke, looking east on Court - you can just see the box I stand on near the light pole (left). And, the view (right) looking north up 4th Street.)

Sometimes people might say it something like this: "If God is all powerful, He could get rid of all evil in the world. But, evil exists in this world, so either God is not all powerful, or He doesn't care about evil." And this is supposed to somehow "prove" that the God of the Bible does not exist, or is merely on par with any other "god" out there.

The atheist who uses this excuse couldn't be more wrong!
Why?
Well, how do you get evil without God?

Okay, I hope I made you curious...click HERE to listen to the audio, complete with just a little bit of rather poor heckling (you just can't get good hecklers these days!).

And, just for fun, I threw in an answer to the old "Who Made God?" smokescreen, with a tip-of-the-hat to Dr. Walter Martin.

Mary helped these two Middle Eastern ladies (wearing headscarves),
and made sure they got CONTRADICT gospel tracts!
The Bible teaches clearly that all who claim to be atheists, skeptics, free-thinkers or agnostics actually do certainly know the God of the Bible, but they are holding that truth in an unrighteous manner. God says He has revealed Himself to all men everywhere (Romans 1:18-22), and that these philosophical excuses will not hold up on Judgment Day. I presented this message with the hope that any who were impressed with these faulty arguments would be challenged to think about it, and I pray that many would repent & believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks for stopping by, and as always, please pray for gospel ministries everywhere, and those laboring in the harvest field. We appreciate it! Paul.

The Adversary

For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
1 Corinthians 16:9

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12

I took a half-day of vacation on Thursday, July 3rd, and hit the downtown corner of Marshalltown to hand out tracts and share the gospel. I took my FREEDOM IN JESUS witnessing cross and, with permission from Mr. Zamora, leaned it up against the wall of his store near the corner.

The Budweiser delivery man was making his delivery when I took this picture. He was working for the King of Beers, and I was working for the King of Kings!

Handed out quite a few tracts to people walking to & from the downtown restaurants, and had a couple of brief conversations with some folks. But an interesting thing  happened around 12:40 or so: a man pedaled up on the sidewalk, and came over to stand next to me with a yellow legal pad on which he had written, "I'M WITH STUPID." Turns out this was the guy that butted in on a gospel conversation I was having with someone at the Octemberfest festival 2 years ago, claiming that Carbon dating proved the earth was millions of years old.

Now, carbon dating can do no such thing (half life of radioisotope C14 is around 5,600 years, so if the whole world was C14 it would be undetectable by 100,000 years). He walked away that time shouting "SCIENCE" over his shoulder, and he distracted from the truth I was sharing that night.

Well, that's what he was here to do on Thursday: he said if he could just prevent one person from taking a gospel tract, he was successful.

I tried to engage him in a conversation, asking how he could know truth without God, but he could not seem to even focus on having a conversation. It was distracting him from distracting me, I guess. He wanted evidence to prove God exists. I told him he knows God exists, because God has revealed himself in him (Romans 1:18-20), showed him that he was relying on his ability to reason to determine truth, but that he could not prove that his reason was valid, apart from God. I did give him evidence for God (information, which cannot arise from matter, infused into every living cell in the form of DNA), but the problem is that he will just go home, Google "Information Science" and "DNA", and get some atheist rebuttal to this evidence to use next time he finds me out on the streets.

See, God has already given all men everywhere enough information so that they can turn to him. It's not that they DON'T have the information, it's what they do with the information the DO have. What we do is turn away from the 1 True God, and we worship idols or idolatrous ideas about God that are not consistent with scripture (Romans 1:21-32). This man does not want to believe in God...He doesn't want there to be a God. The anger and maliciousness in this man's heart appears to be way beyond what I normally see out on the street, and it is very likely that he is either directed by demonic forces, or is possessed by a demonic spirit.

But I know that this is a spiritual battle.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2 Corinthians 10:3-5

This man is not the enemy: Satan & his forces are the enemy, and this man has had his mind blinded (2 Corinthians 4:3-4), and I am praying that he will repent and turn to Jesus Christ before he steps into eternity. So I am asking brothers and sisters in Christ to do the following:
  • Please pray with me for this man, for his deliverance and turning to Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for me, that I would represent Jesus Christ well in the face of this opposition, and for wisdom from God that my adversary will not be able to gainsay (Luke 21:15).
  • Pray that the gospel witness will not be hindered by this man's efforts. He is mean-spirited and nasty, and may go to great lengths to disparage the gospel of Jesus Christ along with me.

Will you join with me in prayer?
If so, please leave me a comment on this article - it would be a great encouragement to the believers here to know others are battling in prayer with us.

Thanks, and may God richly bless you who have turned to Him, who is life eternal (John 17:3).

Paul

Celebrating Freedom in Jesus Christ

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
John 8:34-36
Our new "Liberty Pine"

Friday, July 4th, 2014.
Here in the United States of America, we celebrated our 238th year of independence from British rule, and it was a beautiful summer day here in Iowa.
To commemorate the day, we planted a white pine in our back yard, and christened it "The Liberty Pine." Long may it grow.

Mary and I did some shopping together and enjoyed the holiday. At Younkers, I happened across an LED light set on the yellow-dot sale table, and I put them to use later that evening by putting them on my FREEDOM IN JESUS witnessing cross and hitting the street corner by Wal Mart - my usual Friday afternoon spot - for a little twilight evangelism.

Marshalltown does have 4th of July fireworks at the fairgrounds, but there is no public area close by that you could do public ministry. Traffic was light, but in the hour I was out there, I gave away 6 Bibles, along with some tracts and "God of Wonders" DVD's. Had an excellent gospel conversation with a young woman named Jenny, and her parents Anna Maria and Rudolpho. Jenny walked over as I was packing up, just after this picture was taken, and asked for a Bible. Whenever a Bible goes out, the gospel goes with it. Jenny was of the opinion that most everybody goes to Heaven when they die.  I said, "No Hell?" She thought only really bad people went there, so we went through a few of the 10 Commandments to show how we are all guilty and deserving of Hell. I explained the simple gospel message, and it was a joy for me to show her 1 John 5:11-13 in the Bible I gave her. As a former Roman Catholic, I was taught that it is a sin to say that you know for sure you will go to Heaven when you die. But God's word tells us that, indeed, you can know that you have eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ. Isn't that just awesome? It is to me.

Please pray for Jenny, Anna Maria, and Rudolpho, that they would truly understand the gospel, and join us who have turned to God and placed our faith in Jesus Christ alone.

"There Is Hope...Make The Call"

White letters on a blue background. This sign is posted above phone boxes on & around the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, in an effort to prevent people from committing suicide by leaping off the bridge. Over 1,600 people have done so since the bridge opened, with a record 46 people last year. This past week, the Golden Gate Bridge Authority approved spending in excess of $70 million to install steel safety nets, to prevent or catch people who might attempt this in the future.

As a Christian, I know that human life is precious: we are made in the image of Almighty God, created by Jesus Christ to have a living relationship with Him. I also know that, while Jesus tells us that He came that we might have life, and that more abundantly (John 10:10), in that same verse he tells us that the Thief - that is, our adversary, the Devil - comes not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. That is Satan's "wonderful plan for your life"...to get you so messed up in your mind both through sin and through living in this fallen, groaning creation (Romans 8:21-23) that you would run away from God, kill yourself without receiving the free gift of forgiveness in Jesus Christ, and end up in eternal Hell forever. So, I am all for installing a safety net under this landmark bridge.

I used this piece of news as an illustration in my open-air message at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market on Saturday: how that Jesus Christ is the "safety net" provided by God for all of humanity, to catch us up in his mighty nail-pierced hands, and save us from falling into Hell. While not a perfect analogy, it provided a framework to speak to my neighbors down on Court Avenue about sin, death, and Hell; the gospel and the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary; justification by faith alone in Christ alone, and the gift of eternal life. Click on the link above & listen.

I also had 2 very good gospel conversations at the Market, with a Hispanic Roman Catholic family, and with 2 Hindu men from India who were enjoying the Market with their families. I really appreciated the cordial conversations we had, and if the audio is any good, I may post them later.

Feel free to post comments. Maranatha.

In Season, Out of Season

2 Timothy 4:1-2
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Wow...Friday was a whirlwind day for evangelism & ministering under the blue sky here in Marshalltown. If you labor out-of-doors like we do, you know there are days when you can't get one single tract into someone's hand, or you can't get a gospel conversation started...and it is real easy to get discouraged. But, we keep on keeping on, knowing our labor in the Lord is not in vain no matter what (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Well, Friday as not like that. Over my lunch break I went downtown with my satchel full of tracts, and one Bible to give away. I ran into a couple, Molli &John, in front of Zamora's Fresh Market on
the corner of Main & Center Street. A Round Tuit gospel tract led to a 20-minute conversation about Heaven, Hell, the gospel, salvation, Bible doctrine vs. Roman Catholicism, sanctification & living as a believer. They took a Bible, too, and were very open to the things of God we were discussing.

I drove to my Wal-Mart corner after work, and set up the "Free Bibles...Need Prayer?" sign, and brought out a couple of different witnessing crosses to the corner. It was uncharacteristically calm for Iowa: I could hold the cross up on my shoulder which gives better visibility to south-bound traffic. Had several people stop, either to encourage me or for Bibles. Either way, I always share the hope that I have in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:15), because I've found that many people who stop by to say thanks or to give a cold soda (summer) or hot chocolate (winter), many of these don't have assurance of salvation or a clear understanding of how to be saved. To those who do know the Lord, I usually ask them to pass along a gospel tract to someone they know who needs it, and encourage them to boldly share Jesus Christ with as many people they can, until He comes!

It was about 6 PM when I called Mary to let her know I was wrapping up and heading home. But after I hung up, a couple things happened: my phone battery died, cutting off communication with my wife, and the Lord brought 3 additional encounters my way.

Lorenzo came over as I was loading up my stuff in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Seems he is here from Romania, and was panhandling for money to get him & his family down to Arizona. We talked a bit; he said he needed enough money for 4 tanks of gas to get down there from here. I was able to bless him with $50 that I had on me for just such an occasion (Jesus says it is more blessed to give than receive, so I had that in an envelope, just waiting for an opportunity). But with the cash I also gave Lorenzo a "God of Wonders" DVD, which is sub-titled in Romanian, and also a deep discussion on the differences between his traditional Orthodox religion (as in Greek Orthodox or Russian Orthodox) and Biblical Christianity. Being raised a Roman Catholic, I can identify with much of his religion, plus I've read up on it a bit. He also took a Bible, and I shared with him some scriptures & we discussed how our religions were contrary to much of God's revealed word (Exodus 20, John 3:16, 26; 1 John 5:13, Philippians 4:6-7). He acknowledged his need to trust Jesus alone, and expressed that he was repentant and was trusting in the Lord Jesus right there. He wanted to give me a hug as we parted, and I pray he truly understands the gospel and is a now a new man in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17).

While we were talking, Terry, a local homeless man came up and hung around a few feet away. I met Terry a couple of years ago while out ministering, when I bought him a meal at Hy-Vee and shared Jesus with him. Terry has gone from a shaky situation then to just flat-out on the rocks since. I always greet him with "How ya doing?" and he always replies, "Not very good." I'm not the fountain of money for habitual panhandlers, so I usually point Terry to the House of Compassion for a meal when he hits me up. Not because I don't care, but because I don't want to help Terry keep on going down the destructive path he's on. This evening, when he replied with the usual, "Not very good!", I just sat in the open hatch of my car and started talking to Terry man-to-man: like what was he doing with his life, and what was he going to do to get on a better trajectory? Terry shared about how his drugging & alcohol had destroyed the fragile family ties he had, and that now none of his family would have anything to do with him. He said he hadn't just burned his bridges with his family, he'd blown them up!

I told him that first, he needed to get his life right with Almighty God, through genuine repentance & faith in Jesus Christ. Then, he needed to find any kind of work possible - how God created us men to work, and how that if a man wouldn't work, he shouldn't get food from people who do (2 Thess 3:10). By getting on track with God first, and then taking personal responsibility, I suggested he go to his family and seek forgiveness for being such a jerk of a brother, and that God was in the business of fixing even blown-up bridges. I ended up giving Terry some cash for a meal (violating my own rule!), and he took a New Testament & Psalms, saying he needed to get right with God, and that he wanted to know where my church was because he wanted to go there. Now I am no prophet, but Terry will not be showing up at my church building any time soon. But I do pray he will open his heart and mind to the truth of the gospel, and come to Jesus Christ before it is eternally too late.

Finally, as Terry walked away towards Wal-Mart, a couple came up asking for help finding a place to stay for the night. They'd been at the House of Compassion last night, but there were no rooms for Friday night. They were putting in applications to find work here, and needed to wash clothes and get cleaned up so they could land something. Aside from HOC, I couldn't think of any place, so I offered to get them a motel for the night. They insisted they didn't want charity, but I let them know that I knew of nothing else, and that God has blessed me with eternal life, and I wanted to bless them by helping out. So we went a couple blocks south to the Motel 6, and I got them 3 nights, to get them through the weekend, and gave them a "God of Wonders", a "One Second After" book, and a Bible. We talked about the gospel, and I let them know that they could eat a couple of meals at our friend Andy's China Buffet restaurant up the road, my treat.

I stopped at the China Buffet to arrange things, and it was after 7 PM, so I borrowed a phone to call Mary, who was now out looking for me, since I had told her I was heading home earlier, and had not responded to her text messages since then! Well, it is not always convenient, but when at all possible, we want to be ministering the gospel & demonstrating the love of God, so that others may come to know Him, whom to know is LIFE ETERNAL! (John 17:3) Convenience has nothing to do with laboring for our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh God, give me the desire, the strength and the energy to live a yielded life to you!

Friends, please join us in praying for these dear souls mentioned, and also pray for us, and for our brothers and sisters in Jesus around the world. Maranatha!

Another Response To Jared's Comment

Just as a reminder, this was Jared's comment on a blog post about me going to Manti, UT to witness to Mormons.

If you are so enthused about your faith, why don't you preach it rather than tear down anothers? You are clearly targeting the faith of a specific church when you should be promoting your own. The Mormon church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormons clearly believe in Jesus Christ just like you do. I would suggest you focus on your similarities rather than your differences. You clearly don't believe what they do but they clearly don't believe what you think they believe. Would Christ have disputed with a group of people claiming to be his followers or would he have simply introduced himself to them? Your method of targeting the Mormons is sad and un christ like. There are many people that need the message of Christ in your own communities. I would suggest you start there and stop targeting any particular individual faith. Combining with other faiths that are not your own to tear down one that you all think is the weakest. That's what a group of bullies would do. Mormon's are good people that value families and serving their neighbor's and communities. Surely you can find someone better to preach your message to.
I have to admit I was a little taken back by the comment.  It described me as a person who hates Mormons and people of other faiths than my own.  That was not the case, and it couldn't be furthrer from the truth.  The fact is, is that I am deeply concerned for the Mormon people.  Enough to travel 2 days and over 2,500 miles on a stinky, cramped bus with many people I didn't know, to camp out and get eaten by bugs, and get yelled at by people who would rather see me crawl in a hole and die.  Sounds like a blast right?  But the reason I went was to share the real Jesus Christ with those who "claim" to know Him.

Revelation 3:1 says, "“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,
‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead..."  Just because they have the name "Jesus Christ" in their title does not mean they are Chrisitian.  Do they worship, revere, and regard as divine Christ, the Son of God?  No.  In fact you will never see a cross on the steeple of a LDS meeting house, but a figure of the Angel Moroni.  They in fact worship angels, above the Son of God.

And lets take a look at the tract that I purchased from the LDS bookstore in Salt Lake City, UT I had given those teens:

Notice who's missing?  JESUS CHRIST!!!  If Jesus was so important to Mormons, why is He NOT in God's plan of salvation?  Christianity cannot exist without CHRIST!!!  Christ is Christianity.  I didn't write this, the LDS church did.

Also, this sign was posted everywhere we went that was on LDS grounds:  Any why is that the case?   If we are the same, believe in Jesus Christ, and brothers and sisters in the faith, then why can't I evangelize and proclaim Him on LDS property?  Why would I be threatened with arrest if we both believe in Christ?  Love thy brother right?  The reason is, (and they know this) is that we believe in a different Jesus than they do.  Even their former prophet and seer Gordon B. Hinkley believed that, and stated it numerous times.

In a nutshell, if you think that LDS is Christian, you have been duped Jared.  Maybe you were lied to by the Mormon Missionaries that came to your door.  Maybe you have a friend of family member share Mormonism with you and since they are so friendly they MUST be Chrisitan...right?  If you want a great and fair analysis between Mormonism and Christianity, please go to this website.  On the front page you will see a chart on the differences between Mormonism and Christianity.

I also ask that you would watch this well done documentary called : The Bible Vs The Book of Mormon. It's a great start to show the differences between our faith.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  If you have any other questions please email me at:  Fchirico72@gmail.com

Why Witness to Mormons? Response to Jared's Comment.

Got a comment from "Jared" from an article written last year by Frank Chirco, regarding a mission trip he took to Manti, Utah, to witness to people who follow The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS or "Mormons"). I am going to re-post Jared's comments here for you to examine. Also, there are 2 links near the end of this article - one a video of Walter Martin - that you should check out, so drop down there and do so before leaving!

Jared writes:
"If you are so enthused about your faith, why don't you preach it rather than tear down anothers? You are clearly targeting the faith of a specific church when you should be promoting your own. The Mormon church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormons clearly believe in Jesus Christ just like you do. I tried to contact Jared via email, thanking him for commenting, and asking some questions (Are you LDS? What does it take to make it to Heaven?) but I got no reply. So here are my responses to Jared below, broken down into 4 points (hover your cursor over the scripture references and the verses will pop-up so you can read them):

First, let me quote a well known Mormon Apostle and Prophet, Orson Pratt:

"Convince us of our errors of doctrine, if we have any, by reason, by logical arguments, or by the Word of God, and we will be ever grateful for the information, and you will ever have the pleasing reflection that you have been instruments in the hands of God of redeeming your fellow beings from the darkness which you may see enveloping their minds."
Orson PrattApostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, pp. 15‑16

Very good: exactly what Frank and his companions went to Manti to do, Jared. Orson Pratt does not seem to have a problem with it, so I'm not sure why you do. But here goes....

1.If you are so enthused about your faith, why don't you preach it rather than tear down anothers? You are clearly targeting the faith of a specific church when you should be promoting your own.

Response: I do preach Biblical Christianity and the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Contrary to your statement, the Bible exhorts us to "earnestly contend for the faith which was ONCE delivered unto the saint. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, and denying the ONLY Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." (Jude 3-4). Truth by its very nature is narrow, so by declaring the one true God of the Bible, the true Jesus Christ, and the true gospel of salvation by faith in Christ alone apart from works, I exclude the false man-become-God "Heavenly Father" of the LDS faith, the false Jesus Christ who did not create all things (Colossians 1:16), and a salvation based on faith + your works. Not because I hate Mormons. On the contrary, it is an act of love to reach out to these who will perish in their sins if they stick with their LDS religion (John 17:3)

2. The Mormon church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormons clearly believe in Jesus Christ just like you do. I would suggest you focus on your similarities rather than your differences.

Response: Jared, nothing could be further from the truth! The Jesus Christ of the LDS is NOT the Biblical Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:16-20 tell us that Jesus created all things. The Mormon Jesus did not: according to the LDS, he did not create Lucifer, he did not create the Mormon spirit babies, he did not create the planet Heaven Father was born on, etc. The Biblical Jesus claimed to be the I AM (John 8:58-59), and the reaction of the Jews proves the point: he was claiming to be the LORD.

Your advice to focus on the similarities goes contrary to what God says in the Bible according to Ephesians 5:11 "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." And further, the Apostle Paul proclaims divine damnation on anyone - ANYONE - who would bring in "another gospel" than that which he first preached to the church in Galatia: "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:7-9) "Accursed" here means to be damned by God to Hell. That is heavy, but look at the consequences...millions or billions of people could be deceived by a false gospel and a false Christ, die still in their sins, and end up in Hell as well.

3. "Your method of targeting the Mormons is sad and un christ like. There are many people that need the message of Christ in your own communities. I would suggest you start there and stop targeting any particular individual faith."

Response: Wrong again! Jesus Christ himself commands his followers to go into all the world and preach the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15) . Last time I checked, Manti, Utah is part of "all the world." The people to go there, go with the message of the gospel, and challenge the LDS by exposing the differences between LDS and Biblical Christianity. Because the love them, and want them to be saved from their sins and the wrath of God.

I do minister the hope of the gospel in my community. Did you read nothing else on the Iowa Seed Sowers website? Did you look at the calendar of events, and see I am out at least twice a week, giving away free Bibles and gospel tracts, and offer to pray for the needs of my friends & neighbors here? Where you around last Wednesday night when I mowed the grass for the widow with 4 small children who lives across the street? Not that I need to defend myself from your accusations - God sees and God knows, and my aim is to please him....

And further, the LDS church sends MILLIONS of missionaries all over the world to proselytize their faith and repeat the lies of Joseph Smith. Why is that okay? I spoke with two LDS missionaries just this past Thursday: they like to use words that make you think we are all believing the same things, when really they are light-years apart! Know where the Mormons get most of their converts? From other religions! They pluck many Bible-illiterate professing "Christians" out of their churches and into the LDS religion. Why is that okay for the LDS but not for me?

4. "Combining with other faiths that are not your own to tear down one that you all think is the weakest. That's what a group of bullies would do. Mormon's are good people that value families and serving their neighbor's and communities. Surely you can find someone better to preach your message to."

Response: We do not combine with other religious faiths, period, so that's that.

The LDS church is one of the richest and organized religions around, so I don't agree with your idea about them being weak. Bullies? When we do reach out the lost around us, we don't call them names. Real, Biblical, caring Christians are far from being bullies: we speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

But speaking of that, in areas of the country where LDS is predominant, if a person leaves Mormonism, they are the ones ostracized by their former church brethren & neighbors. Utah has one of the highest rates of divorce in the nation. Know why? Because if one of the spouses - husband or wife - decides to leave the Mormon church, it messes up the ability for the other spouse to be exalted (as they falsely believe) to become Gods, so they divorce that person & hitch their wagon to someone following the Mormon faith correctly, so they can become Gods, have spirit children on some other planet, and be worshiped by those children as their Heavenly Father or Heavenly Mother. Wow!

Biblical Christians know that our Lord Jesus told us there would be a cost to following him. Christians in Muslim countries take their life in their hands to follow Jesus. Here in the States, it is usually limited to name-calling, maybe losing the esteem of men, maybe getting the cold shoulder from family. Times are changing, and the persecution will be coming. But right now, it is worse for Mormons, or Jehovah's Witnesses, maybe some Roman Catholics. When they leave these cults, they may be cut-off from family and friends. Ultimately we who know Christ know that if we suffer for Jesus' name in this life, our eternity with him will be just that much more glorious (Matthew 5:11-12).

You say Mormons are "good people", and this, I think, is the key issue behind the comments here. Jared, do you consider yourself to be a good person? Compare yourself to God's moral law, the Ten Commandments: if you have ever lied, you are a liar; if you've ever stolen something, however small, you are a thief; if you've looked at a woman with lust, Jesus says you are guilty of committing adultery with her already in your heart. Still think you (or anyone else) is "good" according to God's standard? (Check out this LINK for more)

So, no, Jared, I cannot think of someone better to share the Biblical God, Jesus, and gospel with than lost people. See, Mormons and everyone else fall far short of God's perfect standard. If we all got what we deserved, we'd ALL end up in Hell. That's why Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and laid down his life on Calvary's cross, was buried, and rose again. He took the wrath of God upon himself, so that we could take the grace and mercy of God in him. Forgiveness, mercy, love, acceptance, and eternal life are a gift from God, paid for by the Lord Jesus Christ, and is received by faith in what he did for us, personally. Plus nothing. And because God has given us this gift, we want to share it with as many people as possible.

And to finish, here's a link to an old Dr. Walter Martin giving a talk in Brigham City, Utah, and which will answer Jared's questions and provide responses that are far better than I could come up with. Please watch it:

In Season: M'town Witnessing at the local Summer Market

View from corner of Main Street & Center Street
The Lord gave us a beautiful day, and the season for the Marshalltown Farmers Market around the Courthouse has begun. And that means witnessing for Jesus Christ to my friends & neighbors here. I got to drop by with a witnessing cross and tracts, and it was a good time. I got to have conversations with two LDS Missionaries, Grant & "Mr. Deeds" (missed his first name - I couldn't bring myself to refer to these very young men as "elder", despite their name badges) who happened to walk by. And there was Chen, an Chinese young man who is an engineering Intern from Iowa State, working at a local manufacturer for the summer.

Shadow of me & my witnessing cross
Got some gospel tracts out, and had some good conversations, especially with the Mormon lads. I am looking forward to running into them again around town. I know they do not have the correct information for what it takes to go to Heaven, and that LDS doctrine deviates severely from Biblical Christianity. We who have received the gift of eternal life have to reach out to these lost ones. I hope you will join with me in prayer, that the Lord will give more opportunities to speak truth into their lives, and that they might repent & believe on the REAL Jesus Christ before it is eternally too late.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

Memorial Day Weekend: The Conspicuous Gallantry of Jesus Christ

Mary and I got a chance to get down to the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market on Memorial Day weekend. The corner of 4th & Court Avenue was open, so we set up there. Many gospel tracts went out, and I was able to speak about the amazing love of God demonstrated for us on the cross of Calvary.

During our time there, Mary had a fantastic 30-40 minute conversation with Shalih, a muslim man from Iraq. She had given him a "CONTRADICT" tract (below left), and as he stopped to look at it, she asked him if he had any questions, which he did. After a while, they moved out of the street into the shade of the buildings on 4th Ave, as you can see in the picture (below right).

Shalih started with the question of who was Melchizedek - can you believe it? How would you like to get that question? Wow, talk about jumping right into deep waters! But Mary patiently had a conversation with this man, who has bought in to the misconceptions and un-truths that Islam has cast on true Biblical Christianity: that Allah and the God of the Bible are the same, Jesus was a man, and not God come in the flesh, that good works are necessary for salvation, why all the different Bible versions if Christianity is true, etc.

Now, we know that Issa, the Jesus of the Q'uran, is not the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible; We know that God has revealed himself in his word as THE one-in-three, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; we know that there is no other name (other than Jesus) under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved. Our goal is to present the true gospel of Jesus Christ to all men, so that they may be convicted by the Holy Ghost, repent towards the God of the Bible (who all men do know, according to Romans 1) and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. So this is for Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Janes, Buddhists, Roman & Orthodox Catholics, Coptics, Protestant Christians, Pagans, Wiccans, Satanists, Atheists, Animists,...all men everywhere (Acts 17:24-31).

Overall a very good day. Pray for Shalih, and pray for Mary as she studies God's word and how to respond to the challenges & questions that come her way as she holds forth the word of truth. Praise God for his goodness and mercy towards us.

Here is the LINK to the open air preaching.
Please note there is a lot of street noise in this audio, but it's not a problem with your speakers or my recorder. This is what it is like preaching open air, and it is very different than sitting in a comfy church building with great sound systems and comfy chairs. I hope you enjoy the experience. There are a few minutes of delay as we were getting set up. You will hear us pray, and then Mary heads across the street with tracts while I get ready to preach the gospel.

Blossoms Don't Last Here

Every year, when the ornamental trees blossom in front of my office building, I bring in a few sprigs and put them in a glass in my office. I love the fragrance and the beauty of these wonderful creations of God. When I get the chance, I'll stand under a tree like this and breath deeply of the sweet perfume of springtime. And they are only in blossom for a such a short time. Before long, and the blossoms fade & dry, as you can see below.

Their glory is so fleeting, just like our own lives. Ever look back at pictures of yourself as a young man or woman? Oh, we spend a lot of money trying to keep our youthful looks, but time takes it's toll.

Another sad but true reminder that we live in a fallen creation, and that all things that may be seen are only brief and temporary. But for us, death is not the end. The unseen things of God are eternal, and death for us is just the beginning on the other side. God has promises of eternal joy or eternal sorrow, and has provided a way for all of us to escape the sorrow part: all who trust the Savior, Jesus Christ,  will experience the reality of Heaven which will never, ever, ever pass away!

The choice is up to you....

\\1 Peter 1:23-25
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
