2014 Street Ministry Food & Fellowship Meeting

You're invited to join us as we kick-off the outdoor public ministry season here in central Iowa. We want to encourage one another in our efforts to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in 2014, to reach to the lost at the various places & events where people gather outdoors. Here are the details:

What:                         2014 Street Ministry & Public Evangelism Food & Fellowship

When:                        Saturday, 3/15/14 at 6 PM
Where:                      Calvary Chapel Des Moines

                                   Des Moines, IA  50309

Please bring food to share with the group (we have the use of the Calvary Chapel kitchen), and we'll enjoy a casual meal together. Most importantly, let's share what the Lord is doing in our ministry efforts, how He's blessed us with opportunities in the past, and our hopes & plans for the coming year. And, let's pray for one another....

In His Steps

Mary and I watched this old movie tonight, and I thought I'd share it with you.
It's a black-and-white 1964 production of "In His Steps", based on the following scripture from 1 Peter chapter 2:

"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"

1 Peter 2:21

We enjoyed the encouraging & pointed message in this film, of living for Jesus Christ, being a disciple of Jesus Christ, come what may. At first, I was afraid it was going to be a compromised message of a social gospel, but I was wrong. I cheered, for example, as one prominent character came to saving faith in Jesus Christ, and again as another old gentleman briefly testified that he witnessed for Jesus for the first time to some men at work.

Some will find this film corny, campy, unrealistic, or boring. By Hollywood's standards, in the year 2014 AD, maybe so. But not to me. The level of acting, the scenery, lighting, camera work, the sound effects, all the temporal stuff that we place so much value on, all these are subordinate to the message this film is sending: living for Jesus Christ in the real world. I found it to be clean, simple, and real. My spirit is refreshed from watching it. I hope it blesses you, too.

For some reason, whoever owns the rights to this film have pulled it from free public access, and have made available only this "Evaluation Copy." But I would challenge you to at least watch it though once, even so. Still lifts my soul.

Did you watch it? Wasn't that great?

Okay...now, will you take the joyful, hopeful, awesome, wonderful message of the gospel out of your room, and out of your house, and out of your church building, and share it with:

• Your family
• Your friends
• Your enemies
• Neighbors
• Strangers
• The lady that rings up your groceries at the supermarket
• Thy kid behind the counter at the gas station
• Your boss...yeah, your boss (or, do you care about your annual raise more than his eternal soul?)
• The waitress at Perkins
• The people in town who do not speak like you, look like you, or dress like you
• The people in town who do

Will you pray for opportunities, and even go out of your way to take advantage of and make opportunities, to share the gospel with someone today, either by conversation or through gospel literature, Bibles or DVD's?

In other words, let's take Mark 16:15 seriously. Because that's the point of the gospel. And because Jesus Christ is worth it....
